Swedish Network for Communicable Diseases

Communicable diseases, also known as infectious diseases, are caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites, or fungi and can spread from one person to another, either directly or indirectly. These diseases remain a major global health challenge, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, where malaria, HIV, tuberculosis, and neglected tropical diseases continue to cause significant illness and death. In low-income countries, communicable diseases account for six of the top ten causes of disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) and five of the top ten causes of death.

By fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing, the Swedish Network for Communicable Diseases aims to strengthen Sweden’s role in tackling infectious diseases and contributing to sustainable global health solutions.

Our Vision & Mission

Vision:

To reduce the burden of communicable diseases as a cause of illness and death in low-income countries.

Mission:

To promote global health and development by interconnecting people, ideas, and resources.

The Swedish Network for Communicable Diseases was established in 2019 as a transdisciplinary collaboration among Swedish actors in the field, coordinated by the World Infection Fund and guided by a steering group that supports strategic development and initiates activities.
